How to File for Unemployment in Indiana

How to File for unemployment and documentation needed:
You can file for unemployment two ways:

  • Online using a computer or your smartphone.  You go to www.Unemployment.IN.gov to file. 
  • By Phone: If you do not have access to a computer or a smartphone, you can file for UI by phone. 
    Please note that if you use this method, you will not have access to the UI account in the UPlink system and you must obtain all of your information by phone system at (800) 298-6650

Documentation needed to file: 

If filing online, you will need the following: 

  • A valid email account because this becomes your username.
  • Personal Information such as your Indiana Driver’s License or Indiana ID card,
  • Your home address, Social Security Number, Date of Birth, and Phone Number. 
  • You will need information about your last employer including the Employer’s Name/Company Name, their mailing address, phone number, Dates of your employment and the reason why you are unemployed. 
  • You will also need your bank routing number and account number if you choose to use direct deposit to receive your payment option.  Another option is a debit card called Key2Benefits prepaid Mastercard. 

Forgotten Username or Password for Uplink 

If you have forgotten your username or password or have had too many failed attempts to log in you must visit the Uplink Claimant Self-Service home page at https://uplink.in.gov/CSS/CSSLogon.htm

Once you are there you select either “Forgot Username” or “Forgot Password” to reset it yourself. From there you are prompted to enter your SSN, date of birth, and other information to confirm your identity.  You will then be able to create a new username or password. 

What to do after 5 failed attempts

  • If you attempt to log in 5 times and failed you will get a message that will require you to click on "Forgot Password" to reset your account. 
  • You should not continue to enter your password, but should instead follow the on- Indiana Unemployment Insurance Claimant Frequently asked questions for COVID-19 work related issues screen instructions. 
  • If you keep trying to enter your password, your account becomes revoked.  You will have to wait 24 hours for it to automatically reset and then proceed to follow the "Forgot Password" instructions.
